One of the simplest military surplus items is that the
uniform employed by soldiers in action. The uniforms undergo tons, and yet they
last through the toughest conditions in terms of weather and combat.
All branches of the military have either recently changed
uniforms or are within the process of doing so. Each branch has changed over
from the military uniform Uniform (BDU). The military uniform uniform had been
a military surplus item since it became standard issue in September of 1981. It
included a cap, shirt, pants, and therefore the M65 field jacket.
The BDU was made up of either cotton or a mixture of cotton
and nylon or polyester. All BDU items were made within the ripstop weave to
make sure durability. Two different versions of the jacket were made: one for
decent weather and one for temperate weather. The BDU originally came in
Woodland Camouflage, but later was available in other patterns.
The BDU became an unauthorized military surplus item on
April 30, 2008, but many military members still use it.
The first branch to institute new uniforms was the Marines.
The new uniform is named the United States Marine Corps Combat Utility Uniform
(MCCUU), and it uses the MARine PATtern (MARPAT) design. The pattern may be a
"digital" camouflage, composed of small "pixels" of color,
that's available in both woodland and desert colors. The changeover happened
from 2001 to 2004.

It was next the military that changed from the BDU over to
its new Army Combat Uniform (ACU). The change happened from 2005 to 2007. just
like the Marines, the military used a "digital" camo pattern called
Universal Camouflage Pattern. This pattern works well in both wooded and desert
areas.
The other branches have followed the Marines and therefore
the Army, changing from the BDU (or other uniforms) to their own respective new
military surplus uniforms. The Coast Guard has changed to the Operational
military uniform, which is navy in color and is analogous to the BDU. The Air
Force now uses the Airman Battle Uniform (ABU) with its "digital"
tiger stripe camo pattern. The Air Force has come an extended way from the old
Air Force flight jacket. it'll complete the changeover by 2011. and eventually,
the Navy has begun changing over to the Navy Working Uniform (NWU) -- a change
which will even be required by all Navy personnel by January of 2011. The Navy
features a new digitized camo pattern, with blue being the first color.
